Helping the next generation make seafood choices that protect our oceans.

Hi, I’m the voice behind Beneath the Bite—a 16-year-old who was born in Hawaii, but raised in landlocked Colorado and misses the ocean everyday. The ocean has always been my favorite place in the world. It’s where I feel most connected—to nature, to life, and to something much bigger than myself.
But what happens beneath the surface is more fragile than most people realize.

Beneath the Bite was created to connect the choices we make every day—especially the seafood we eat—to the health of our oceans. Because the truth is, what’s on our plate doesn’t just affect one species—it impacts entire ecosystems, biodiversity, and ultimately, the future of our planet.
Through this project, I want to make it easier—especially for younger generations—to understand:

  • Which seafood choices support healthy oceans
  • Which practices, like trawling, are damaging marine habitats
  • And how small, informed decisions can create real change

My goal is simple but ambitious: to help protect ocean habitats, preserve marine life, and inspire a shift toward more sustainable practices. I believe that awareness is the first step—and that our generation has the power to demand better for the oceans we depend on. Because what we choose to eat today shapes what survives tomorrow.

Let’s protect what lies beneath.
